Zadar

“Little Croatian Rome” was first mentioned in the 4th century BC as Jader. It was built in the center of the Croatian Adriatic coast, almost 3000 years ago. The biggest direct impact to the identity of the city was culture of ancient Rome, at a time when settlement takes on characteristics of a city, with structured street network, forum-square and elevated Capitol with the temple.

It is three thousand years old, a city of turbulent history, often conquered and devastated, every time emerging from the ruins more beautiful, stronger and richer. The entire town is a monument, surrounded by historical ramparts. Centuries-old tempestuous history, destruction and creation have left their scars but many documents also, the valuable monument heritage of the city today. Numerous churches and cultural monuments have been preserved from all historical periods with all styles of art visible in the architecture. Walk along the polished stone streets of the city will become a walk through history, and also an experience of the contemporary life.
